Guest Blogging Tips:6 Effective Tips
You’ve probably seen it before; after all, you’re seeing it right now – bloggers posting on someone else’s blog. Enter: guest blogging. Guest blogging is one of the easiest ways to showcase your writing, get more traffic to your own blog, and form a bond with other bloggers as well. When writing a guest blog, you do want to be mindful of a few things, though:
1. Unique content
Don’t write an article that has been on the blog recently or is showing up all around that niche of the blog world. To draw readers in you need to write with a unique perspective on a topic to keep readers engaged.
2. Write well
When you write a guest blog it should contain high quality work. You need to put time and effort into crafting a quality post that makes people want to head over to your site to see what else you have to say. Your guest blog is many readers first impression of you – you want to put your best foot forward.
3. Make sure you spell check and grammar check
You wouldn’t leave for work without putting your shoes on, right? Do your due diligence to your post and make sure that you’ve triple checked all of your spelling, your grammar, and your formatting. Again, this is a reflection of you and you’re trying to gain new readers – don’t be sloppy, be well-crafted.
4. Don’t publish it on your blog too
A lot of times bloggers will let you know ahead of time if it’s against their policy to have you republish on other websites, your own included. But even if you could repost it on your website, why would you want to do that? When readers click over to your site they want to read new content, not the same thing they just read.
5. Provide backlinks linking to posts within your website
If the blogger you’re guest blogging for doesn’t mind, use backlinks to older posts you’ve written on your own blog; this way people will have a chance to easily navigate over to something of quality that you’ve written for your own blog. It will increase traffic to your site and (hopefully) earn you a new reader. Don’t overdo it though, make sure you to keep the links to a minimum, otherwise you’ll come across as only wanting to advertise your own blog.
6. Respond to comments
Responding to comments people have left on your guest blog is a great way to interact with readers and create a meaningful connection. It will show that you’re interested in what they have to say as well.
Most bloggers are pretty open to having other bloggers guest blog on their site because if the post is well-written it’s a win-win situation for everyone. They get good quality content on their site and you get great exposure. So if you’re looking for different ways to market your blog or beef up your writing portfolio, this is a great way to do so.
